14.3.18  Spring Term 2 - Out of this World!

This term has seen us begin our 'Out of this World' topic - with Year 6 focusing on the world of Drones and more widely; the world of tomorrow.

We have been writing balanced arguments in our English lessons on whether Drones are a force for good or danger in the world. This has been an excellent opportunity to develop both our written and spoken debating skills.

In our Art lessons we have been focusing on the futuristic work of the Cubists; creating some amazing still life and portrait drawings, inspired by the work of George Braque and Pablo Picasso.

Thanks to all parents who attended our Arithmetic workshop - we had a great time!

We loved sharing our expertise with parents.

In our SPAG (Spelling & Grammar) sessions we have been learning all about different sentence types

8.10.18 Spring Term 1

What a whirlwind first term for Year 6! I can’t believe how much we have managed to achieve; from our amazing academic progress to the way every single pupil has applied themselves and matured into their role as Year 6. The top it off, I couldn’t be prouder of we managed to achieve with our Christmas production of The Lion King. On a different note, we have also had to sadly say goodbye to Miss Davidson, who has decided to pursue a different career outside teaching and we wish her the very best in the future.

Our extended writing this term will be based on the narration of David Attenborough and the grammatical devices he uses to create excitement, interest and draw the listener in. We will also extend our focus onto other non fiction texts, such as non chronological reports and scientific writing.

On Friday 19th January at 11:10am you are invited to an arithmetic workshop with Year 6 where we will share with parents the methods of calculation that are taught in school in the idea that parents have a greater understanding of what is covered at school.

This term’s creative curriculum focus will be on geography and our map skills looking at the continent of Africa. We will also complete some artwork based on the African theme.

In Science out topic will be Light where we will think about how we can use experiments to expand our scientific knowledge.

Our R.E focus for this term will be the story of Jesus and learning more about his significance within Christianity. Our computing sessions will be about internet safety and how to safely navigate the digital environment.

On Thursday 8th February there will be a parent's meeting to discuss Year 6' upcoming March 19th trip to Swanage.

What a great first half term! We have been super busy; learning all about fractions, immersing ourselves in the world of Peter Pan and honing our investigative Science skills. Check out the pictures to see what we've been doing!

We set up  'Jeremy Kyle' style chat show to interview Captain Hook - we certainly learnt a lot about his motivations as a character and why he can't stand his mortal enemy; Peter Pan.

We've been going fractions mad in our Maths!

Year six have been off to Never Never land with Peter Pan and have started some wonderful learning this year.

They love a good book and posing for photos! ....

Watch this space for more on their learning!
